Earth Day
Earth Day is celebrated world wide on April 22nd each year. First observed in the
U.S.A. in 1970, Earth Day is intended to focus citizen attention on the natural
environment and to remind us all of our obligations to protect and preserve the
earth's natural resources.
JET plans an Earth Day activity each year. This has included public presentations,
lectures and field trips. In 2000, the Student Environment Network (SEN) conducted a
candle light vigil to protest the state of the Kingston Harbour. Since 2001, Earth
Day activities have been the Earth Time Now conference.
In 2004, JET held Jamaica's first Recycle Jamaica! day on Earth Day.
