'Westwood High wins top prize in the SEP 2004/2005'

The Jamaica Environment Trust hosted its
eighth Annual National Awards ceremony at the Terra Nova Hotel on
Wednesday, September 28, 2005. Sixty-eight of the 200 schools
which participated received prizes for outstanding performance in
the SEP in the following categories:

Managing Garbage
-
Greening of School Grounds
-
Environmental Club
-
Environmental Research
The national winners in the programme for
2004/2005 were:

Westwood High, 1st place - First Caribbean
International Bank Trophy

Airy Castle Primary, 2nd placem -
Canada/Jamaica Green Fund Trophy
-
Clonmel Primary and Junior High, 3rd place -
Jamaica Energy Partners Trophy
This year an environmental research
component was introduced in the advanced schools. An advanced
school is one which has performed consistently well in the
programme over the years and now serve as a model school for the
other schools in the parish they represent. The winners in the
advanced schools' competition were:

Ferncourt High, 1st place Senior

McGrath High, 2nd place Senior
-
West Indies College Prep, 1st place Junior
-
Sandy Bay Primary and Junior High & Gideon
Educational Centre, 2nd place Junior
Unfortunately SEP has been downsized from
200 to 100 schools due to financial constraints, however JET
continues to conduct teacher training workshops annually for 353
schools across the island.
