NMlA Airports Limited contributed $300,000 to the Jamaica
Environment Trust (JET), one of the beneficiaries of its fourth
annual fund-raising NMIA-Palisadoes Walkathon held on Saturday,
November 17th,
2007.
The funds were a contribution towards JET’s annual beach
clean-up of the Palisadoes Strip in observance of International
Coastal Clean-up Day, celebrated annually on the third Saturday
in September.
In handing over the cheque, Mr. Earl Richards, CEO of NMIA
Airports Limited emphasized the importance of maintaining the
structure, as well as the beauty of the Palisadoes Strip.
“NMIA is the prime gateway, serving the nation’s capital, as
well as the south and east coasts of the island,” Mr. Richards
said.
“Our airport continues to make a significant contribution
towards the maintenance of our environment, and the development
of Kingston as a tourist destination.”
JET has been a recipient of the NMIA-Palisadoes Walkathon
fundraising event since its inception four years ago. This year
JET conducted its 14th
annual clean-up of the Palisadoes Strip which attracted
approximately 300 participants.
