About Us.

Who We Are

The Jamaica Environment Trust (JET) has a small and vibrant team, who draw on a wide range of skill sets and come from a variety of professional and academic backgrounds.

JET is a non-profit, non-governmental membership environmental organization

We are based in the Kingston and St. Andrew area. We are a registered company limited by guarantee under Jamaica’s Companies Act (non profit). We are also a registered charity under Section 12 (h) of the Jamaican Income Tax Act and donations to JET in Jamaica are fully tax deductible.
JET’s paid-up membership fluctuates between 100 and 500 and we have approximately 80 corporate sponsors. We have a full-time staff complement of four and members of the Board and Directors are elected at our Annual General Meeting in March.
We have undertaken a range of projects over the years across Jamaica. These include beach and gully clean-ups, photographic competitions, recycling projects, the production of a musical stage play entitled “Nuff Respect for Nature” which toured 40 schools island-wide in 1994, a five-minute radio programme called EnviroNotes, and a World Bank funded demand side management energy conservation project with the Jamaica Public Service Company, environmental films, a number of annual events, and advocacy campaigns. We also produce environmental materials, a biannual e-magazine, and deliver regular talks on the environment and field trips. We operate a long standing environmental education programme in Jamaican schools and we are advocates for the protection of Jamaica’s natural resources through our law and advocacy work.
