Welcome!
The Jamaica Environment Trust is a non-profit, non-governmental membership organization operating in the island of Jamaica. We were formed in 1991 and our main focus is environmental education and advocacy.
We believe awareness of and concern about environmental issues are critical building blocks of sustainable
development.
We operate Jamaica's largest environmental education program, the Schools Environment Program, and we coordinate a network of high school environmental clubs called the Student Environment Network. We also organize field trips, environmental events and an Annual Beach Clean up. In 2003, JET began activities in Environmental Advocacy and we are now coordinating campaigns on specific environmental issues.
In Jamaica, environmental issues are given a high priority and are an integral part of the national development objectives…natural areas are valid, protected and properly managed…Jamaicans are knowledgeable and concerned about the environment and this is reflected in their behaviour.
We intend to build a highly successful, action-oriented environmental non-profit, non-government organization to play our part in achieving this vision. |
