The Jamaica Environment Trust is a non-profit, non-governmental membership organization operating in the island of Jamaica. We were formed in 1991 and our main focus is environmental education and advocacy. We operate Jamaica's largest environmental education program, the Schools Environment Programme, which has been in continuous operation since 1997. We deliver a legal programme, providing legal advice to communities affected by environmental issues, and we conduct campaigns to protect specific natural resources. We also organize field trips, environmental events and an annual beach clean up. Our vision is... Environmental issues are given high priority in Jamaica and are an integral part of the national development objectives…natural areas are valued, protected and properly managed…Jamaicans are knowledgeable and concerned about the environment and this is reflected in their behaviour. We intend to build a highly successful, action-oriented environmental non-profit, non-governmental organization to play our part in achieving this vision.
